South African Trout

During this last trip to South Africa I spent a day with a local guide fishing for wild rainbow trout.   Tim Rolston of Inkwazi Flyfishing was my guide for the day.   I found Tim through the Stream X site, and I’m so glad I did.   It’s interesting that the streams outside of Cape Town are...

Senator Edward M. Kennedy

May he rest in peace and his works continue well beyond his mortal life.  I’ve photographed him many, many times in the past 15 plus years, for the Associated Press, Boston Herald and most recently for Harvard University.  These are a few of those last bit of images of Senator Kennedy that I’ve had a...

Congrats to Stephanie and her family.

Wild Fun

Inspired by recent posts at www.troutpreadator.com I stopped by the local fly shop today looking for native trout.  Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) are the only trout native to much of the eastern United States.  They are arguably the most beautiful freshwater fish, and they are amazing.  Andy, Melissa and Miles of Concord Outfitters were spot...

Lady Slippers

Walking the boys this morning at Mt. Gilboa Park, I came across old friends I hadn’t seen in a year or so.  Pink Lady Slippers, Cypripedium acaule, which are wild orchids.  They pop up every year at this time and for me is a symbol of spring really arriving.  They remain for a month or...

The Gunpowder River

Just got back from a great three day trip with good friend Marc Barbeau to the Gunpowder River in central Maryland.  We were based out of Backwater Anglers in Monkton, MD, a beautiful fly shop
The Gunpowder is a small river teeming with wild brown trout, salmo trutta.  Most of the fish we caught were in...
